What is the difference between 'counselling,' 'therapy,' and 'psychotherapy'?The terms ‘counselling’, ‘therapy’, and ‘psychotherapy’ are often used interchangeably and generally refer to the same type of service: professional support for addressing emotional, mental, or relational challenges. While the core of these services is similar, the differences are often related to regional terminology or the way the profession is regulated in different provinces or territories. In some areas, ‘psychotherapy’ may be used to refer to in-depth, structured therapeutic interventions, while ‘counselling’ might imply shorter-term or solution-focused support. ‘Therapy’ is a broader term that encompasses both counselling and psychotherapy. However, the actual services provided can overlap significantly regardless of the term used.

What is reproductive mental health counselling?Reproductive mental health counselling focuses on the emotional, relational, and psychological challenges associated with the various stages of the reproductive journey. At The Den, we organize these stages into six key seasons: pre-conception, trying to conceive, pregnancy, postpartum, parenting, and the menopausal transition. By addressing the ways that these seasons can impact mental health, The Den helps individuals and couples build resilience, heal, and thrive, ensuring they feel empowered and supported at every step of their journey.
-
What can I expect during my first session?Your first session will involve a thorough intake, where we discuss your concerns, goals, and therapy preferences. This helps us tailor your care to meet your unique needs.
-
How do virtual sessions work? Our virtual counselling sessions are conducted through a secure online platform, allowing you to access therapy from the comfort of your home, anywhere in British Columbia. Sessions by phone are another option available for clients who may find this more convenient.

At The Den, we recognize that the experiences within each of the six key seasons—pre-conception, trying to conceive, pregnancy, postpartum, parenting, and the menopausal transition—don’t just affect individuals but can also have a profound impact on relationships. Couples counselling is designed to help both partners feel heard and valued while building skills to strengthen their relationship. At The Den, we’re here to guide you and your partner through every season with care and compassion.

Can my partner join me in individual counselling sessions?Yes, by pre-arrangement, your partner can join you for occasional individual sessions.
