About Us
Navigating Life's Transitions.

More than Mental Health

At The Den, therapy is as distinct as the individuals and couples we serve, offering specialized reproductive mental health care to guide you through life’s most transformative seasons. From the decision to try to conceive, through the challenges of infertility and pregnancy, to postpartum struggles, the evolving dynamics of parenthood, and the physical and emotional changes of the menopausal transition, we are here to support you every step of the way. We provide a deeply personalized experience designed to honor the unique complexities of each client’s lived journey.

What sets The Den apart is our commitment to ensuring that each session is tailored to your specific needs and circumstances. Whether you connect with us virtually from the comfort of your own personal space anywhere in British Columbia or visit us for in-person sessions in our convenient and welcoming Kelowna clinic, you’ll find a supportive, professional, and thoughtful environment. For clients in the Okanagan Valley, we extend our offerings with walk-and-talk therapy and concierge counselling, bringing expert care to a location of your choice for your comfort and convenience.

At The Den, we are guided by our core values of empathy, professionalism, and client-centered care. Every interaction is uniquely crafted to reflect your personal journey, offering the dedicated attention and expertise you deserve as you navigate conception, pregnancy, birth, parenthood, and menopause.

In nature, a den is a place of refuge—a sanctuary where animals find safety, recover their strength, and raise their young with care. At home, a den is a private retreat, offering comfort, relaxation, and space to recharge. At The Den Counselling and Psychotherapy, we bring these qualities to life, providing a supportive space where you can heal, grow, and seek clarity through every season of your reproductive journey. Here, you’ll discover a sanctuary designed to help you navigate your unique challenges with peace and purpose.

Barbara is an accomplished psychotherapist dedicated to helping individuals and couples navigate the complexities of reproductive mental health. With extensive clinical experience working with diverse and complex cases in public health, she identified a significant gap in services for those dealing with challenges such as family planning, infertility, miscarriage, postpartum struggles, birth-related trauma, parenting adjustments, and the menopausal transition.

Barbara’s own lived experience enriches her practice. As a mother of two, she understands firsthand the joys and struggles of parenthood. She has also navigated the challenges of divorce, single parenthood, blending families, infertility, and miscarriage. More recently, Barbara has developed an appreciateion for how confusing and isolating the transition to perimenopause can feel and recognizes the significant lack of support available to those navigating it. Her personal experiences have provided insights that fuel Barbara’s passion for providing compassionate, informed care to help others feel seen, understood, and supported during every season of their reproductive journey..

Certified by the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association as a Certified Canadian Counsellor (CCC), and as a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) through the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors, Barbara is committed to providing the highest standard of care. She has completed specialized training in advanced perinatal mental health with a specific focus on clinical psychotherapy through Postpartum Support International, equipping her to support her clients with evidence-based interventions grounded in compassion. Barbara provides trauma-informed and culturally competent care, welcoming people of all backgrounds and gender affiliations. She recognizes the importance of creating an inclusive, supportive space where every client feels valued and understood.

Barbara also brings a rich academic foundation to her work, holding graduate degrees in counselling psychology, sociology, and Indigenous studies. Currently a PhD Candidate in sociology, Barbara’s research, recognized with numerous accolades including the prestigious Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship, explores the intersection of personal lived experiences and societal structures. This sociological lens informs her clinical work, allowing her to approach each client’s challenges within the broader context of their unique life circumstances and family system.

Barbara’s mission is to empower individuals and couples with the tools, insights, and support they need to heal, grow, and thrive. At The Den Counselling and Psychotherapy, she strives to provide a nurturing space where clients feel seen, supported, and inspired to navigate each season with resilience and grace.
